Casstevens Named STOR Business Formation and Commercialization Manager

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Martin K. Casstevens has been named business formation and commercialization manager for the Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR) at the University at Buffalo.

Casstevens, whose expertise is business plan development, mentoring, and development of funding resources, will assist in the commercialization of university technology through business formation.

"Having both broad technical knowledge and business development experience, Martin brings a valuable perspective to the position," said Woody Maggard, associate vice provost and interim executive director of STOR. "He understands the diverse types of research being conducted at the university and also has experience in identifying potential market opportunities for the outcomes of such research."

Since 1990, Casstevens, a former UB graduate student, has been instrumental in the development of three companies. He has been a principal investigator on more than $3 million of federally funded research in the areas of lasers, optics, surface chemistry, polymers and biomedical instrumentation.

He also will manage STOR's outreach to UB faculty and assist in planning UB's annual Henry A. Panasci Jr. Technology Entrepreneurship Competition Panasci Competition.

Casstevens is a resident of Amherst.
