The preliminary findings of the "Queen City Gardens Plan" -- planning and policy strategies for creating and sustaining community gardens in the City of Buffalo -- will be presented to the public at 5:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, May 5, 2009) in 230 Hayes Hall on the University at Buffalo South (Main Street) Campus.
The plan was prepared for the City of Buffalo Task Force on Community Gardens by graduate students in the UB School of Architecture and Planning's Department of Urban and Regional Planning, working under the direction of Samina Raja, Ph.D., assistant professor of planning.
After the presentation, those present will be invited to provide suggestions for incorporation into the final report, which will be presented at a date to be announced in the next few days.
Queen City Gardens has its roots in Raja's graduate Urban Planning class, "Planning for Food Justice," which was assigned the task of assessing the current status of Buffalo's community gardens, and providing insight into their future.
