Facility to be named for Bruce Holm, executive director of the UB Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics

The Genesee County Economic Development Center will hold a groundbreaking and dedication ceremony at 3:30 p.m. today (Friday, June 26, 2009) for the Dr. Bruce A. Holm Upstate MedTech Centre in the Upstate MedTech Park on Assemblyman R. Stephen Hawley Drive, near Genesee Community College, in Batavia.

The building will be dedicated to Bruce A. Holm, a former Batavia resident and SUNY Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University at Buffalo. Holm also serves as executive director of UB's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

The MedTech Centre will be a 43,000-square-foot facility that will house the GCEDC's offices, Genesee Community College's nursing program and United Memorial Medical Center's physical and occupational therapy programs. The MedTech Centre will also be home to 6,100-square-feet of commercialization space that would support emerging life sciences companies that have ties to university centers including UB and the University of Rochester.
