BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present Corea, Clarke & White at 8 p.m. on Sept. 25 in the Mainstage Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. The performance is sponsored in part by Monaco's Violin Shop & Music Center.
Three original members of the supergroup Return to Forever (RTF) -- Chick Corea (keys), Stanley Clarke (bass) and Lenny White (drums) -- take it back to basics, reuniting as a trio as they originally started back in the day pre-RTF. The three masters will perform an evening of electro-acoustic alchemy -- from straight ahead swinging jazz to hard-hitting fusion.
Says Corea of the new trio, "Now that we're playing together again, there's a flood of creativity and inspiration that could only come from making music with this group. Stanley, Lenny and I are looking forward to taking it back to the trio setting we had when we were putting the first electric version of RTF together. That week we did at the old Keystone Korner (San Francisco) in 1973 remains memorable for us and has become a starting point for the new musical explorations we're planning."
For the fall tour, Corea will alternately perform on nine-foot grand piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano and various synths while Clarke will switch off between upright and electric bass.
Tickets for Corea, Clarke & White are $49.50, $44.50, $39.50.
