BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The skillful management of change is the goal of the Certified Change Management Professional course that the University at Buffalo's Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) will offer to organization and company leaders this fall.
Course participants will learn how to proficiently manage the teams that execute strategy and change, an essential element in providing a strong, flexible foundation for progress.
The Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP) course runs from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, 9, 13, 16 and 27, and Nov. 10, 13, 17 and 20 in the UB Technology Incubator, 1576 Sweet Home Rd., Amherst.
The course costs $995 and the registration deadline is Sept. 22. An exam will be administered at the end of the program; those who pass will become certified CCMP experts.
The 27-hour course will equip professionals with the tools to make strategic decisions, translate strategy and manage change within an organization.
It addresses the technical, communication and interpersonal skills essential to effectively manage change, including supervision, change management, communication skills, coaching skills, motivation, conflict management, time management, performance management and group facilitation.
Instructor Kristina Young, an expert in change management, will discuss why a strict top-down approach may be ineffective.
"Unless you can get buy-in from the people who carry out the processes that will be affected by the change, you're going nowhere," Young said, adding that bad attitudes or poor morale will exacerbate the difficulty. "Organizational change comes down to what people do on a day-to-day basis."
Young is an adjunct instructor at UB's School of Public Health and Health Professions. She has an extensive background in consulting and training in health care and other industries.
TCIE has long provided change management services through public seminars and on-site delivery.
