Hip-Hop Dance Company Illstyle & Peace Productions to Perform Oct. 9

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present Illstyle & Peace Productions -- Hip-Hop Dance Company on Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. The performance is sponsored by M&T Bank. There will be a pre-performance talk at 7 p.m.

Illstyle & Peace Productions is a dance-theatre company based in Philadelphia, Pa., whose work fuses the moves and spirit of hip-hop with various other styles of dance. Founded in 2002, the company's mission is to create awe-inspiring works with diverse audiences worldwide, and to spread unity, peace, love, respect and fun through dance.

"Same Spirit Different Movement" is the company's newest evening-length work. The piece celebrates the art form of dance and movement in a collaborative effort that brings various dance styles together in spirit while defining each movement as distinctive. Although the performers move in their own ways, they share the same spirit of dance, the unity of movement, which Artistic Director Brandon Albright identifies as the spirit of God.

The production includes vocal percussions, turntablism, spoken word, popping, locking, breaking, tap dancing, DJing, house, Human Beatboxing and various other styles.

This project is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by The Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency; and The Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
