The University at Buffalo will announce the creation of a new advisory council that will help prepare local residents for jobs created by the UB 2020 plans at a news conference to be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010) in the UB Gateway Complex (the former M. Wile Building), 77 Goodell St. in downtown Buffalo.

A local community and business leader also will be announced as chair of the new council.

The new advisory council will help UB's new Office of Economic Engagement identify and create ways to ensure that local residents are being equipped with skills matched to current and future jobs created through the UB 2020 initiative and the region's emerging job market.

The goal is to train a diverse workforce to support and benefit from the continued emergence of Western New York's health care and biotech industries by taking a broad look at what job opportunities are on the horizon, what skills and training are needed and how local residents can access job-development programs in preparation for current and future job opportunities.

Press arrangements: John DellaContrada in the UB Office of Communications at 645-4601 and onsite at 361-3006.
