BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo will be the place to be to watch movies under the stars this summer, with free film screenings planned for both the North and South campuses.

The film series, presented by the undergraduate Student Association in conjunction with the Office of Community Relations and UB on the Green, will feature family-friendly movies to be shown on the lawn in front of Hayes Hall on the South Campus and on the Special Events field across Putnam Way from the Student Union on the North Campus.

The South Campus screenings will be held on Wednesdays, beginning July 7 and running through Aug. 18; films will be shown on the North Campus on Tuesdays, from July 6 through Aug. 17, and on Fridays, from July 9 through Aug. 20. All screenings will begin at dusk -- around 9 p.m. In the event of rain, films will shown in Allen Hall, South Campus, and in the Student Union Theater, North Campus. Free parking is available on both campuses.

"We are excited about expanding our summer programs in the South Campus neighborhood. The addition of this new movie series demonstrates the university's continued commitment to providing family-friendly programming for the neighborhood," says Vincent D. Clark, director of the Office of Community Relations. "Our community programming is an opportunity for the university and the community to come together to build upon our efforts to strengthen our surrounding neighborhoods."

The complete schedule of screenings can be found at http://www.buffalo.edu/ubreporter/2010_06_30/summer_movies.

The Office of Community Relations also has announced a change in schedule for its UB on the Green free outdoor performance series. This year the series, which is held on the lawn in front of Hayes Hall, South Campus, isin partnership with Student Affairs and has been moved to Wednesday nights in late August and early September. The shift to a later-in-the-summer schedule -- performances traditionally have taken place on Tuesdays during July and early August -- is designed to enable more neighbors, students and staff to attend.

The series, a family-friendly showcase of music and dance performances, will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 25, Sept. 1 and Sept. 8. In addition to providing entertainment for all ages, UB on the Green is an opportunity for the community and University to become more familiar with each other. It also is designed to educate, as well as entertain, with interactive demonstrations, and other hands-on activities. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Light refreshments will be available for sale. UB on the Green is an alcohol-free event.

Performers will be announced shortly.
