UB Kids Voting WNY, the local chapter of a nationwide initiative to engage young people in their right to vote, has invited local students to ask questions and watch a debate among the three candidates for the New York State's 144th Assembly District from 7-8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 27) in Allen Hall on the University at Buffalo's South Campus.
The three candidates for the office -- Sam Hoyt (Democrat. Independent, Working Families), Brian Biggie (Republican and Taxpayer) and Joseph Golombek Jr. (Conservative) -- will all participate in the event.
Buffalo Public School High School students from Grover Cleveland International Preparatory will ask their own questions during the debate, based on discussions they had and questions they drew up in class.
UB Kids Voting WNY is a signature program in Civic Pathways in the Center for Educational Collaboration. Now in its fourth year at UB, it seeks to encourage children to become engaged, responsible citizens through education and involvement in the democratic system. This year over 36,000 students will cast their votes in races such as New York State governor, comptroller, justice of the Supreme Court, and even local races and amendments. UB Kids Voting WNY is the only affiliate in New York State of the national bi-partisan organization, Kids Voting USA.
For more information on UB Kids Voting WNY, contact Katie Biggie at 716-829-6170, and onsite during the debate.
