In a winter when you can take nothing for granted, the University at Buffalo Geology Department, at least, is holding its traditional Groundhog Day cookout -- albeit slightly belatedly -- at 11:30 a.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011) off Putnam Way between the UB Computing Center and the Natural Sciences Building on the UB North Campus. Great Visuals!
For many, many years, Ridge Lea Larry -- the UB Department of Geology's stuffed groundhog, symbol of winter's mid-point and all-around mascot dressed in custom-made threads and top hat -- has lightened the dreary winter blues by predicting whether or not there will be six more weeks of winter.
Press arrangements: Ellen Goldbaum in the UB Office of News Services at 645-4605 and Alison Lagowski on-site.
