Judith Adams-Volpe

Despite retiring in 2010 after holding a number of positions for the UB Libraries, Judith Adams-Volpe maintains ties to the university through her service and gifts.

A staunch supporter of UB athletics, she chaired UB's Intercollegiate Athletics Board (IAB) when it launched the annual Ideal Bull Student Athlete Leadership Award. She also assisted in preparing NCAA compliance reports, volunteered on annual fundraising campaigns, developed public exhibits and displays in Alumni Arena for Girls and Women in Sports Day, Black History Month and Women's History Month. In 2006 Adams-Volpe received the division's UB Recognition Award. She has generously arranged bequests for women's athletic scholarships and Lockwood Library.

Adams-Volpe has also assisted UB's undergraduate college and the general education curriculum, served on the UB Faculty Senate and volunteer-taught Discovery Seminars. As president of the SUNY Librarians Association, Adams-Volpe was instrumental in establishing the Distinguished Librarian Rank within SUNY, which led to her receiving the prestigious Friend of the SUNY Librarians Association Award in 2003. In addition to her career at UB, Adams-Volpe also served as an academic librarian at Lehigh University, the Library of Congress, Georgetown University and Auburn University.
