BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Susan Dentzer, editor-in-chief of Health Affairs, and one of the nation's most respected health and health policy journalists, will be the honored speaker at the 165th commencement of the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, which will be held April 29 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Center for the Arts on UB's North Campus.
Dentzer will present her talk, "Congratulations. Now Please Go Reinvent U.S. Healthcare" at approximately 2:15 p.m.
Health Affairs, which the Washington Post has described as the "Bible" of health policy, is the nation's leading peer-reviewed journal focused on the intersection of health, health care and health policy in the United States and internationally. Dentzer is an on-air analyst on health issues with the PBS NewsHour, and a frequent guest and commentator on such National Public Radio shows as This American Life and The Diane Rehm Show.
An elected member of the Institute of Medicine and the Council on Foreign Relations, Dentzer also chairs the Board of Directors of the Global Health Council, the largest membership organization of groups involved in global health, and is a member of the Board of Overseers of the International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian organization providing relief to refugees and displaced persons around the world.
At the SMBS commencement ceremony, 140 students are candidates to receive the following degrees: 134 MD degrees, three MD/PhD dual degrees, two MD/MBA degrees and one MD/oral and maxillofacial surgery degree.
