ALBANY, N.Y. -- A comprehensive report on the State University of New York's economic impact across New York State will be released on Wednesday, June 1, at the University at Albany's Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government, 411 State St., Albany.
The SUNY-commissioned report, How SUNY Matters: Economic Impacts of the State University of New York, was jointly conducted by the University at Buffalo Regional Institute and the Rockefeller Institute. SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher will introduce the report and briefly describe how it relates to SUNY's strategic planning. UB Regional Institute Director Kathryn A. Foster and Rockefeller Institute Director Thomas L. Gais will present report findings.
The report explores SUNY's current economic impact, including spending associated with SUNY institutions, students, employees and visitors, and workforce capacity supported by SUNY alumni. The study's review of economic development activities across SUNY campuses, from new technology development to workforce training for employers and entire industries, portrays SUNY's role -- and potential -- in the state's innovation economy. A significant portion of the report explores the impact of SUNY on the local economies and workforces of the state's 10 regions, including Western New York.
The most comprehensive and detailed analysis ever undertaken of the statewide economic impact of the entire SUNY system, the study is based on a survey of all SUNY campuses with respect to economic development activities, as well as detailed statistical and financial data from each campus.
The event will begin with registration at9:30 a.m., followed by presentation of the reports at 10 a.m. and a Q&A at 10:30 a.m. The program will adjourn at 11 a.m.
Following the event, the full report will be available online at http://regional-institute.buffalo.edu.
