President Satish K. Tripathi Releases Message to Campus Community Regarding Changes to Health Sciences

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- University at Buffalo President Satish K. Tripathi has released the following message to the campus community regarding changes in senior leadership and the organizational structure within the university's health sciences.

Dear University Community:

I wanted to make you aware of a number of important updates regarding key changes in our senior leadership team and the organizational structure within the university's health sciences enterprise.

First, I am writing to announce that David L. Dunn has accepted the position of executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Louisville and will be leaving the University at Buffalo to take on this new role effective July 1.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Dunn for his many valuable contributions as vice president for health sciences over the past six years. We have been fortunate to have the benefit of his expertise and leadership, particularly exemplified in his role on the Berger Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century to identify and implement strategies for improving the region's health care delivery system, and his important work in advancing the vision for UB's Academic Health Center. David was instrumental in pursuing our vision of excellence through such contributions as new and improved research learning facilities, expansion of our clinical and translational research portfolio, unification of clinical practice plans, and hiring of several outstanding new faculty and deans.

I have asked Dean Michael Cain to take on the additional external responsibilities of the vice president for health sciences, effective July 1. In this expanded role, he will carry the dual title of vice president for health sciences and dean of the school of medicine and biomedical sciences.

Michael's leadership and vision have been instrumental to the medical school, to our health sciences organization, and to the university as a whole, and I am grateful for his willingness to take on this expanded role. I have greatly valued his counsel and contributions as dean and look forward to his continued contributions and collaboration in this important new capacity.

In consultation with Interim Provost Stenger and the health sciences deans, I have decided to align the university's organizational structure with a focus on enhancing excellence, expanding engagement, and fostering greater efficiencies. In this new structure, the health sciences deans will report both to the provost and to the vice president for health sciences.

I am confident that these changes will allow us to sustain and build on the important momentum we have generated across our five health-related schools, and I look forward to our continued work together to advance the excellence and mission of our health sciences enterprise and the university at large.
