News Conference: $9.8 Million Program Aims to Improve Science Education in Buffalo Public Schools

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Public Schools will join university and community partners at a news conference to announce a new $9.8 million national grant to support a community-wide effort to improve middle and high school science education.

The announcement will take place tomorrow (Oct. 11) at 11 a.m. at the Buffalo Museum of Science at 1020 Humboldt Parkway in Buffalo.

The grant program will be led by the University at Buffalo, Buffalo Public Schools, Buffalo State College and Buffalo Museum of Science. The centerpiece of the initiative is more support for teachers.

At the news conference, UB Professor Joseph Gardella, the grant's project leader, will give an overview of the program. Amber M. Dixon, interim superintendent of the Buffalo Public Schools, will describe the program's potential impacts.

Other scheduled speakers include Buffalo State College President Aaron Podolefsky, Buffalo Museum of Science President and CEO Mark Mortenson, and UB President Satish K. Tripathi.
