BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at University at Buffalo will present National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts, UB North Campus.
A highly talented group of athletes who call Beijing their home, The National Acrobats of The People's Republic of China have performed extensively throughout the world. The brightly costumed acrobats use everyday items such as chairs, tables, bowls, ladders and bottles to do extraordinary feats involving contortionism, martial arts, drumming and dance.
Since 1950, the National Acrobats have continuously dedicated their efforts to pushing the limits of acrobatics. Training to become a member of The National Acrobats of China, who are recruited between the ages of six and eight, is notoriously difficult. The acrobats are held to extremely high standards that keep the routines well-executed and precise. The company has toured to more than 40 different countries, where they have received sensational reviews for their thrilling live show.
About The National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China, the LA Times has said, "What do a card table, four champagne bottles and seven chairs make? A jaw-dropping balancing act perfected by the National Acrobats of China." Paul Bartlett, the acrobats' American translator says, "If a trick fails, they'll do it again for the audience...But I've never seen them not complete a trick in the time I've been traveling with the company."
Tickets for National Acrobats of the People's Republic of China are $26.50 general admission and $16.50 for students (all schools).
