BUFFALO, N.Y. -- David L. Katz, MD, founder and director of Yale University's Prevention Research Center, will discuss obesity and chronic diseases as part of the University at Buffalo's School of Public Health and Health Professions' 23rd J. Warren Perry Lecture to be held at 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 4 in Harriman Hall on UB's South Campus.
The talk, "The Road to Good Health is Paved with Good InVentions," is free and open to the public; seating is limited.
Katz, an internationally recognized leader in integrative medicine and patient-centered care, will discuss his evidence-based, holistic care approach to medicine, nutrition, weight control and the prevention of chronic diseases.
An associate professor of public health at the Yale University School of Medicine, Katz is an internationally recognized scholar committed to improving the health of individuals and the community through proper nutrition, weight management and the prevention of chronic disease. He is the principal inventor of the Overall Nutritional Quality Index utilized in the NuVal nutrition guidance program currently offered in more than 500 supermarkets throughout the U.S.
Katz is the founder of the "Turn the Tide Foundation," an organization that addresses the rapidly rising rates of diabetes and obesity across America. He is also director and founder of Griffin Hospital's Integrative Medicine Center in Derby, Conn., and was director of medical studies in public health at the Yale School of Medicine for eight years.
A presentation of School of Public Health and Health Professions awards will follow the lecture, at 2:45 p.m.
The J. Warren Perry award and lecture series is presented by UB's School of Public Health and Health Professions to honor the late J. Warren Perry, an accomplished scholar, administrator, author and prominent national figure in his field, who founded the School of Health Related Professions, which preceded the School of Public Health and Health Professions at UB. Perry served as dean from 1966 until 1977.
