Media Advisory: UB Goblins Going Door-to-Door for "Trick or Eat"

If you live in the neighborhoods around the University at Buffalo's North Campus, you may be hearing shouts of "Trick or Eat" on Halloween. But these are not your typical trick-or-treaters looking for candy. Underneath the costume will be a UB student asking for a donation of non-perishable food.

The UB students will be going door-to-door from 4:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, to collect food for the Food Bank of Western New York. Last year, UB donated 3,000 pounds of food to help Buffalo families who struggle to put food on the table. This year, 125 student volunteers are hoping to collect 5,000 pounds of food to be distributed to local food pantries with the greatest need.

Best time for media: Terri Budek, community engagement coordinator in the Center for Student Leadership and Community Engagement, and UB students participating in the event, will be available for interviews at 4 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. in the UB Student Union lobby on the North Campus.

Amherst is one of 55 communities -- and one of only two communities in the United States -- participating in Trick or Eat, a program begun by the nonprofit group Meal Exchange (http://www.mealexchange.ca). In addition to collecting food for those in need, students will be raising awareness about the reality that hunger exists in their own backyards.
