BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present Ballet Folklorico de Antioquia, Colombia on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. The performance is sponsored by M&T Bank.
The members of Ballet Folklórico de Antioquia, Colombia have one mission -- to spread the multicultural richness of Colombian culture. In a celebration of Colombian folklore in its many manifestations, the company offers an experience of authentic music, dance and physical theatre accentuated with brilliantly colored and scintillating costumes. The group features 20 dancers and eight musicians.
Diversity, precision, and emotion are the characteristics that shine through in each of the choreographed routines that the dancers of Ballet Folklorico de Antioquia, Colombia present. The magic of their dance movements transforms the company into what audiences have called a "spectacular show of lights, music and dance."
Recognized for its elegance, excellence and high technical level of dance, Ballet Folklorico de Antioquia, Colombia has been enjoying a rapidly expanding international reputation in addition to their many awards and special appearances. The company won a Gold Medal at the Stylized Folk Olympics in France and the title of "Perfeccion" at the 25th annual International Festival in Quebec. Ballet Folklorico also received a special recognition as the best Latin American company to take part in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 -- the first Colombian group to ever participate in such an event.
