Snow or no snow, the University at Buffalo will hold Winterfest 2012, a UB tradition for more than 60 years, from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at South Lake Village on the North Campus. Open to all UB students, faculty and staff, it's a great way for the entire campus community to shake off hibernation for a day.
The festival will feature igloo- and snowman-making contests, with judging to be held at 4:30 p.m. Other events will include broomball, ice bowling, polar kick ball and ice skating. In addition, the Getzville Fire Department will hold an ice rescue demonstration at 2 p.m.
For those who are less enthusiastic about playing out in the cold, there will be board games, music, food and door prizes in the South Lake Community Building. Events will conclude at 5 p.m.
