BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo welcomes Shaolin Warriors on Thursday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts, UB North Campus.
Performed by disciples of the Shaolin schools in China, the Shaolin Warriors are admired across the globe for their exemplary discipline and ferocious martial arts prowess. These masters of Kung Fu have trained from a very young age in both mental and physical disciplines and routinely test the limits of the human body by performing extraordinary feats with extreme precision.
This stunning production showcases the intricate technique, astounding imagery and lightning quick movement of Shaolin Kung Fu that will amaze audiences of all ages. Throughout the performance, a man chops vegetables on his stomach with a real cleaver, another monk's abdominals withstand a pounding from a log battering ram and two men with a bed of nails between each get a board broken over them with a mallet. They all end up unscathed.
The Shaolin Warriors even encourage audience participation -- adults are brought on stage to try to pry a silver bowl out of the grip of a monk's abs and children in the audience are often selected to take part in a quick Kung Fu lesson.
About Shaolin Warriors, The Washington Post has said, "They combine the agility and grace of gymnasts with the showmanship of Cirque du Soleil performers." The Orange County Register has said the Shaolin Warriors are, "so good at what they do, it almost looks like animation."
Tickets for Shaolin Warriors are $26.50 general admission and $16.50 for students and children. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts Box Office (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and tickets.com. To charge tickets, call 1-888-223-6000.
