BUFFALO, N.Y. – Students from more than 10 area schools inspired by the anti-bullying spirit will compete for the best musical show in front of “Jersey Boys” lead Hayden Milanes and other celebrity judges at the “BAND Against Bullying” multi-school music and arts festival at the University at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts.
WHEN: 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14.
WHERE: The Center for the Arts, North Campus, University at Buffalo.
WHO: High school student rock, rap and folk musical acts will compete in front of celebrity guests that include Hayden Milanes, currently playing Frankie Valli in the national touring cast of the musical “Jersey Boys” now performing at the Shea’s Performing Arts Center; Fred Jackson, running back for the Buffalo Bills; Andrew Peters, an alumnus of the Buffalo Sabres; Nicholas Picholas from Kiss 98.5; Amanda B. Nickerson, director of UB’s Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention; and Dennis Black, UB’s vice president for university life and services.
WHAT: “Band Against Bullying” is a regional inter-school music and arts competition related to the theme “dignity for all.” Students from 10 local city and suburban high schools have developed themed performances to raise community awareness of bullying-related issues to raise support of anti-bullying education efforts.
Media Visuals: Finalists from each school will perform at the UB Center for the Arts. Acts include rock bands, rap groups and folk artists. The evening also includes a special performance by Hayden Milanes. Celebrity judges will be available for interviews.
