UB offers new online rehabilitation counseling graduate certificate program

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education (GSE) will launch a new online advanced graduate certificate program in rehabilitation counseling to begin this fall.

“This new advanced graduate certificate program in rehabilitation counseling is a part of the signature educational experience at the University at Buffalo, which offers working professionals a great opportunity to further advance their careers,” says David Burganowski, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology and director of the rehabilitation counseling program.

"The online component provides students who are unable to attend classes in person the chance to obtain training from the expert faculty at UB while gaining significant insight in to the field from a global perspective,” Burganowski says.

The program is fully accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) and is ideal for those holding a graduate degree in counseling, behavioral health or science, disability studies, human relations and services, and marriage/family therapy, who are seeking to provide counseling services for persons with a disability, according to Burganowski.

The new certificate will also prepare students to meet academic requirements set by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) in a number of categories to earn the national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) credential. Students who wish to enroll in the certificate program without the intention of earning the CRC are also welcome.

UB will be one of fewer than a dozen schools to offer a specific curriculum to meet Category R requirements--requirements which expand the certification eligibility for certified rehabilitation counseling credentials.
