UB lecture series will introduce companies to START-UP NY, the new tax-free program for businesses

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo will host a Commercialization Lecture Series event on Jan. 30 to introduce businesses and entrepreneurs to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s groundbreaking START-UP NY initiative, which creates tax-free zones for certain businesses in university communities across the state.

Speaking at UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, UB Associate Vice President for Economic Development Marnie LaVigne, PhD, will provide attendees with information on START-UP NY, which is available to new and expanding businesses, and companies looking to relocate from outside New York.

START-UP NY — short for SUNY Tax-free Areas to Revitalize and Transform Upstate NY — aims to create jobs and generate economic growth as businesses align with academic institutions in designated  tax-free areas, giving entrepreneurs access to world-class higher education institutions, state-of-the-art technology and industry experts.

The lecture takes place from 4-5 p.m. at UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, 701 Ellicott St., Buffalo. To register for this free event, visit startupny.eventbrite.com.
