BUFFALO, N.Y. – Carl Lund, PhD, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor in the University at Buffalo Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, was named a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Fellow status in the AIChE is one of the highest honors a chemical engineer can achieve. Lund was recognized for his accomplishments in teaching, service to the field and research on heterogeneous catalysis.
A former senior engineer with Exxon Research and Engineering Co., Lund joined the UB faculty in 1986 as an assistant professor of chemical engineering.
He served for nine years as the chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and has received numerous awards and published more than 60 academic articles.
Lund’s research centers on the study of catalytic ways to convert cellulosic biomass into useful fuels and chemicals, while reducing waste byproducts. The new fuel could replace petroleum-based fuels and chemicals.
Through his work, Lund also participates in RENEW – Research and Education in eNergy, Environment and Water – UB’s new research institute that focuses on complex energy and environmental issues.
Lund received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Purdue University and his doctoral degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
