BUFFALO, N.Y. – With March Madness in the rear-view mirror for the University at Buffalo men’s and women’s basketball teams, both squads took some time to thank a key contributor to their success this season: The fans.
In a video produced by the university, men’s guard Shannon Evans and women’s guard Mackenzie Loesing explained how the outpouring of encouragement and enthusiasm was crucial to each team’s historic season.
“To our community and our fans, thank you so much for all the support,” Evans says. “They helped us so much, they contribute to this championship as well.”
The men’s team earned the university’s first Mid-American Conference title in basketball and made its inaugural appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The women’s basketball team played for the first time in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
Hundreds of fans from the Buffalo and UB community packed into the Student Union for the university’s official watch party. Others watched in restaurants and taverns throughout Buffalo and many made the trip to Columbus, Ohio to support the Bulls.
“If I had one thing to say to the fans and supporters of UB athletics, it’s just, ‘Thank you,’ because I don’t think they realize what a role they have in our success,” Loesing says.
