UB School of Management honors business partners and interns

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Career Resource Center and the Internships and Experiential Learning Office in the University at Buffalo School of Management honored business leaders, students and companies on April 24 at the Buffalo Club.

Sudha Bommidi, MBA ’07, senior administrator, patient care services at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, was awarded Career Resource Center (CRC) Alumnus of the Year, an honor given to an alumnus who has made a meaningful contribution to the career development of UB School of Management students as a participant in CRC programs or a champion for the school in the business community.

Christopher Spiegelman ’90, managing director at Andersen Tax, was named Recruiter of the Year for his significant impact in recruiting School of Management students.

The Recruiting Organization of the Year award went to Chiampou Travis Besaw & Kershner, an Amherst-based accounting firm. Michael Schaffstall ’90, a partner at the firm, accepted the award.

The Internships and Experiential Learning Office named three Interns of the Year. The students and their internship placements were: Nicholas Braun of Buffalo, Horizon Health Services; Nicholas Farrell of Lancaster, Target; and Satish Chandra Goud Aily of Hyderabad, India, 43North.

The office also honored two Supervisors of the Year: Danni Brady, human resource generalist at Horizon Health Services, and Jerry Green, human resources executive team leader at Target. Both winners were nominated by one of their UB interns for their contribution to the intern’s professional development.

The Outstanding Internship Organization award went to Rich Products for the company’s longstanding engagement with the School of Management. Over the past 12 years, the company has hosted interns in such areas as customer service and logistics, in-store bakery marketing, international finance and talent management. Lori Albano ’82, senior cost accountant, accepted the award for Rich’s.

43North, dubbed the world’s largest business idea competition, was honored with the New Internship Partner award. Jon Spitz, director of development, accepted the award.

Finally, the Nonprofit Internship Site of the Year was awarded to Just for Kids, which offers before- and after-school programming in several local communities. Since 2009, the organization has accepted 16 School of Management students for internships in accounting, finance, marketing and human resources. Jill VerDow, recruitment and talent manager, accepted the honor.
