BUFFALO, N.Y. – New students at the University at Buffalo took part in a popular annual tradition Friday afternoon as part of Opening Weekend 2015: creating a human interlocking UB logo. The photo event is a featured part of Opening Weekend, which kicks off University Life & Services “Fall into UB” programming.

“Opening Weekend is all about welcoming our new students to UB,” said Dennis R. Black, vice president for University Life & Services. “They are forging friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime. Joining in on the human UB logo is a lot of fun, but it also symbolizes, for each student, joining together as part of the UB community.”

Approximately 2,300 students took part in creating the human logo, wearing T-shirts provided onsite to participants in UB blue and white. Additional facts:

  • The university has been hosting the human interlocking UB logo for 11 consecutive years. The tradition began in 2004.
  • To date, it has never been rained out.
  • The dimensions are 128 by 90 feet.

The event is facilitated by University Life & Services’ Office of Student Life staff and many volunteers.

“Fall into UB” is a series of events that take place in the first six to eight weeks of the fall semester to help new and returning students get the academic year off to a great start while building college memories.
