BUFFALO, N.Y. – Where can you have the opportunity to hold a human brain, examine cancer cells under a microscope and test drive a Robotic Surgical Simulator (RoSS) that’s used to train surgeons?
The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and the University at Buffalo will team up on Saturday, April 23, for the second annual “Picture Yourself on the BNMC” open house, where more than 550 students in grades seven through 12 from schools throughout Western New York and their parents will have the opportunity to explore medical campus facilities and learn about career paths available right here in Buffalo.
All participants will receive a medical campus map and will have the opportunity to tour 10 facilities, where they will hear from experts and see state-of-the-art research labs, hospital rooms and creative spaces. Participants will also be able to watch a pre-recorded surgery, take a turn as a virtual welder, create bacteria art and more.
Who: 550 student in grades seven through 12 and their parents. Students and others are encouraged to Tweet about the event using the hashtag #PictureYourselfBNMC.
When: 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 23
Where: Families will start the day with registration and a light breakfast at dig, 640 Ellicott St. in Buffalo. Free parking is available across the street at the 589 Ellicott St. lot.
The event, sponsored by UB’s iSciWNY program and powered by AT&T, features activities from UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Materials Informatics, UB’s Center for Computational Research, Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Kaleida Health, the Jacobs Institute, Unyts, Buffalo Manufacturing Works, 43North and the Thomas R. Beecher Jr. Innovation Center.
