BUFFALO, N.Y. – The opportunity to earn nationally recognized credentials in material handling and distribution is now available through the University at Buffalo Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE).
Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) training debuts this summer, and individuals interested in learning about it are invited to a free information session Friday, May 20, from 8:30-10 a.m. at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Center, 2402 North Forest Rd., Amherst, New York.
Attendees will hear how the training distills global supply chain operations through four core areas of competency: logistics equipment and systems; safety/hazardous material handling; dispatch, routing and tracking; and shipping and receiving. Training is suitable for entry-level and incumbent workers, and from frontline workers to frontline supervisors.
The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) – a national training, assessment and certification system – developed the curriculum. It is based on federally endorsed standards defined by industry subject matter experts. It has two components:
· The foundational Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) provides an overview of supply chain logistics and good workplace habits.
· The mid-level technical CLT examines the primary processes of handling materials throughout the supply chain in greater depth.
UB’s CLT training incorporates 70 hours of web-based education with reading materials and classroom learning facilitated by TCIE Director of Operational Excellence Peter Baumgartner. In-class sessions will reinforce virtual lessons through interactive discussion.
“Today’s logistics workers need to be flexible and knowledgeable, and be able to problem solve, to meet demands of an evolving global supply chain,” said Baumgartner, a CLT authorized instructor. “The CLA and CLT provide workers with the foundational competency and higher-level skills to remain competitive.”
CLT training provides for the only logistics certification accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under ISO Standard 17024.
