Media Advisory: ‘Giving back to the city we love:’ UB Community Day is April 7

BUFFALO, N.Y. – More than 100 student volunteers from the University at Buffalo will help to make Buffalo an even nicer place to live as part of UB Community Day to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 7 at locations throughout the city.

During this day of service, students will work with neighborhood residents at sites around the Downtown and South campuses, painting, preparing community gardens and flower beds, removing graffiti and performing other general cleanup tasks.

It’s a chance for the university community to give back to the city and to demonstrate UB’s commitment to the neighborhoods around its campuses. In addition, the event helps foster better relationships with residents and shows UB students the value of getting involved with neighborhood projects.

Student volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. April 7 in the Butler Auditorium, 150 Farber Hall on the UB South Campus, before heading out to roughly a dozen locations around the city, including Friends of the Night People, where volunteers will clean the facility inside and out. Additional spring cleanup projects will include the Allentown Association, Vive-Jericho Road, Journey’s End Refugee Services, Pelion Community Garden, the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy and other locations.

Best time and location for media: 10-11 a.m. at the corner of Minnesota and Cordova avenues, near Main Street, where UB students will be working with members of the Minnesota Block Club to rake, weed and clean up center medians on the street.
