BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo Research Institute on Addictions will host its third Student Research in Addiction Sciences Open House on April 25 to showcase the collaborative addictions research work conducted across many disciplines at UB.
The open house will take place from 1-4 p.m. at RIA, 1021 Main St., Buffalo, on UB’s Downtown Campus. Nearly 30 undergraduate and graduate students from 10 departments in four UB schools will participate. It is free and open to the public.
“Addiction studies can encompass many fields, such as psychology, sociology, medicine, neuroscience, public health and education, which all have robust programs at UB,” says Kenneth Leonard, PhD, RIA director. “We’re pleased to have this opportunity to highlight the interdisciplinary addictions research to which students contribute at the university.”
Students will present posters featuring research conducted under the guidance and mentorship of faculty and research scientists from RIA and the UB College of Arts and Sciences, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biological Sciences, School of Social Work and Graduate School of Education.
The poster presentations will address a wide range of addictive substances, including opioids, alcohol, cocaine, tobacco and prescription drugs, and address topics such as prenatal cocaine exposure and child behavior problems; bullying and later alcohol use; trauma-informed care; alcohol abstinence and treatment outcomes; and long-term neurological effects of Ritalin use.
