The university is implementing significant security measures used during visits by very prominent guest speakers to campus. It also will be taking extra precautions because of recent targeting of political figures.
Approximately 6,500 people are expected to attend the speech, which will occur at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for ticketed patrons. Prior to that, the venue will be subjected to a security sweep to ensure the safety of all those in attendance. All attendees will be required to pass through metal detectors and all coats and large bags will be searched.
Attendees should plan to arrive early due to the security measures.
Biden’s appearance is part of the university’s annual Distinguished Speakers Series, which for the past 30 years has brought to the university prominent authors, scientists, activists and politicians to discuss cultural and societal issues.
