WHO: A. Scott Weber, University at Buffalo vice president for student life, will be available today at noon to discuss UB’s internal review into the activities of Greek-letter, social, fraternal organizations at the university.

The review is part of the university’s response to a suspected hazing incident early Friday morning that seriously harmed a UB undergraduate student who is hospitalized at Buffalo General Hospital.

WHAT:  An internal review committee, formed by Weber, will examine each organization’s health and safety educational programs, policies and practices, with a special focus on anti-hazing.

WHERE AND WHEN: The news briefing will be held at noon today, April, 15, in room 567, Capen Hall, on the UB North Campus. The room is located directly across from the elevators on the 5th floor.

WHY: At the direction of UB President Satish K. Tripathi, the official activities of all Greek-letter, social, fraternal organizations at UB were suspended on Friday until further notice. Tripathi also directed Weber to begin an immediate review of Greek life at UB.

An FAQ about the university’s response to the suspected hazing incident is available here: www.buffalo.edu/news/releases/2019/04/024.html

PLEASE NOTE:  Because there is an active investigation led by the Buffalo Police Department, UB cannot comment on the police investigation into the suspect hazing incident. Those questions should be directed to Buffalo Police.  The university also cannot provide updates on our student’s medical condition because of federal laws (HIPPA) protecting student and patient privacy.
