Buffalo, NY – The University at Buffalo Department of Theatre and Dance presents the Emerging Choreographers Showcase, directed by UB Dance faculty member Joyce Miller Lichtenberger, and undergraduate student director Alexis Corletta.
Students from theatre and dance will perform new dance works created by undergraduate choreographers: Allison Bollinger, Kennedy Jordan, Sabrina Sapor, Erica Sedor, Caroline Sheehan, Katie Tomney, Nick Wawrzaszek, Whitney Zimmerman, and graduate student choreographer Phil Wackerfuss.
In keeping with the diverse traditions of dance at UB, the Emerging Choreographers Showcase includes eclectic music ranging from the jazz stylings of Duke Ellington to the rippling piano of George Winston, and the steady, melodic tone of Bon Iver’s instrumental cover of “Wash.”
The concert celebrates diversity in both genre and theme. The work ranges from contemporary to tap, jazz, modern and Irish dance, featuring themes that explore the importance of embracing one’s individuality, the struggle to find balance amidst conflicting forces, and the tension of unison and disunity. Sound Designer Andy Porcelli and lighting design students at the university complete the collaboration.
