BUFFALO, N.Y. – Calvin Meaney, PharmD, clinical associate professor in the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, received the 2019 Researcher of the Year Award from the New York State Chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP).
The NYS-ACCP Researcher of the Year Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the scientific literature of drug therapy and to research applicable to patient care by a pharmacist researcher in New York.
Meaney was recognized on Nov. 8 at the NYS-ACCP Annual Fall Clinical Meeting in Schenectady, New York.
“Dr. Meaney embodies the true spirit of excellence in clinical pharmacy research as an emerging pharmacist scientist, and he makes our department and school very proud,” said Brian Tsuji, PharmD, professor and associate dean of clinical and translational science in the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Meaney is a clinical pharmacist and scientist in the field of nephrology, which is the study of kidney function and disease. His research focuses on the optimization of drug therapies, including the personalization of medications that stimulate red blood cell development in dialysis patients. Meaney was one of the first researchers to identify the antibiotics vancomycin and piperacillin-tazobactam as toxic to the kidneys.
He earned a doctorate in pharmacy from UB.
The ACCP is a professional and scientific society that provides leadership, education, advocacy and resources that enable clinical pharmacists to achieve excellence in practice, research and education.
