Robot wars returns for Engineers Week at UB

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It’s robot fighting time at the University at Buffalo.

On Friday, the Student Union on North Campus will become a battlefield as engineering students compete to see who can build the mightiest bot.

The contest, which riffs on the popular television show “Robot Wars” and other imitators, is part of Engineers Week, a seven-day celebration of UB’s student engineering clubs.

News media are invited to check out the action. Here’s the details:

When: 10 a.m. to noon, and 1:30-4:30 p.m, Friday, Feb. 21.

Where: The lobby of the Student Union on North Campus.

Other highlights of Engineers Week include:

Wednesday

  • 2-4 p.m. — Students will pilot mini-drones through an obstacle course to see who is the fastest. Student Union, Room 145.
  • 3-5 p.m. — Students will build and demonstrate a hydraulic pulley. Student Union lobby.

Thursday

  • 1-3 p.m. — Students will build a rollercoaster from recycled cardboard. Student Union, Flag Room.
  • 4-6 p.m. — Students will compete in a life-size version of the popular children’s game Operation. Student Union lobby.

Engineers Week is sponsored by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Engineering Partnership Program and the UB Student Association.
