Public invited to view Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park transformation progress at March 10 meeting

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Imagine LaSalle park redesign project will hold a community meeting March 10 to reveal an updated design for Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park that reflects changes made based on technical studies and analysis completed throughout 2019.

Attendees can explore these changes through a revised large-scale model of the park, and communicate feedback to the design team.

Architecture and engineering firm Schlaich Bergermann Partner (sbp) will also present a preliminary design for a new pedestrian crossing spanning I-190, to connect Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park with surrounding neighborhoods.

Members of the media are welcome to cover the community meeting, and may arrive at 5:30 p.m. to preview materials and talk with a project spokesperson.

Who:

  • The University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning and the UB Regional Institute (UBRI) are leading the public engagement part of the project.
    Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA) is leading the schematic design of Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park.
  • Schlaich Bergermann Partner (sbp) is leading the design and construction of a new pedestrian bridge over I-190.
  • The Buffalo Urban Development Corporation, Gardiner & Theobald, and the City of Buffalo are overseeing the overall project development.

Why: To provide the community with an update on the progress of schematic design for Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Centennial Park and to introduce the preliminary designs for a new pedestrian crossing.

Representatives from MVVA will recap the work completed throughout 2019, including technical studies and analysis, and explain how this work is reflected in the revised design for the park. MVVA will also outline the work that lies ahead in the coming months and years.

Schlaich Bergermann Partner will then present its initial design for a new pedestrian crossing over I-190 connecting the park with the surrounding neighborhood.

After these presentations, the community is encouraged to examine the new model and bridge renderings up close and provide comments to MVVA and sbp.
