An article distributed by Health Day News Service reports that an extract of the herb St. John's wort has been found to be slightly more effective for the treatment of moderate to severe depression than the widely prescribed antidepressant Paxil, and quotes Uriel Halbreich, professor of psychiatry, who said he would not prescribe the herb and there are practical difficulties in its use, particularly for persons who take the extract on their own.
