An article distributed by the Associated Press on the superstitions surrounding "666" quotes Philips Stevens, Jr., associate professor of anthropology. "They believe the sinister number 666 is encoded in our nation's banking system," he said, "in our medical and governmental records and in our very identity, in personal documents and in UPC bar codes -- this latter is evidence of the fulfillment of Revelation prophecy." The article was picked up by a number of outlets, including the Syracuse Post Standard. Articles quoting Stevens also appeared in the Baltimore Sun and the Lakeland Ledger.
