An article distributed by HealthDay News Service reports that antibiotics are mostly useless for treating sinusitis and quotes David Sherris, professor and chair of otolaryngology, who said, "Most people do not need antibiotic therapy unless symptoms persist for more than seven to 10 days. Plain X-rays of the sinuses add little or nothing to the diagnosis and treatment of acute sinusitis." The article was picked up by about 15 newspapers and health-related Web sites, including The Washington Post, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Palm Beach Post, HealthCentral.com and HealthScout.com.
