Charles Patrick Ewing, professor in the UB Law School, is quoted in an article in The New York Times on the federal trial of abortion-opponent James C. Kopp, charged with violating a 1994 law forbidding the use of force to prevent access to reproductive health care. The federal offense carries a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole; Kopp already is serving 25 years to life in prison for the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian. Ewing notes, "Under New York State law, it's conceivable that someday a parole board could release him. As a practical matter, I don't think that would ever happen." Go to article
