An article distributed by the Associated Press on the controversy over whether to re-release Walt Disney Co.'s 1946 film "Song of the South," which produced one of the company's most famous songs, "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah," but also has been criticized as racist for its depiction of Southern plantation blacks, quotes James Pappas, associate professor of African-American studies, who said, "I think it's important that these images are shown today so that especially young people can understand this historical context for some of the blatant stereotyping that's done today."
The article received wide distribution nationally and internationally, with stories appearing in more than 65 outlets, including USA Today, The Washington Post, Toronto Star, Seattle Times, Guardian Unlimited, MSNBC, Business Week and Newsday.
