An article distributed by the Associated Press looks at the prevalence of sexual misconduct by teachers in American schools and people's reaction to the crime based on the victim's gender and reports that a 2004 study conducted by UB researchers that gauged perceptions of teacher-student sex showed that a female teacher with a male student was most often seen as a "normal part of growing up" and respondents were less likely to conclude that the teacher should lose her license. The article was picked up by several international newspapers and by about 100 news outlets throughout the nation, including USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Albany Times Union, Houston Chronicle and Guardian Unlimited.
