Reuters interviews UB expert about heavy drinking and domestic violence

For heavy drinkers, one extra might help reduce violent behavior.

Kenneth Leonard, director of UB’s Research Institute on Addictions, is quoted in an article distributed by Reuters Health about a new study that has found that for heavy drinkers in treatment for domestic violence problems, an extra therapy session targeting alcohol abuse may help to speed overall improvement in violent behavior. Seeing any positive result, even a small one, in a group of men in a court-ordered program who had not sought treatment on their own was promising, he said. The article appeared in news outlets that include the Chicago Tribune, San Jose Mercury News, Orlando Sentinel and Los Angeles Daily News.
