A front-page story in the Buffalo News titled “Just What the Doctor Ordered” discusses in detail how UB is recruiting some of the country’s top physicians to UB, many of them attracted by plans for UB’s new medical school and the emerging BNMC. The story focuses on six of the new recruits and what led them to move their families to Buffalo to take positions in the UB medical school. The story quotes UB President Satish K. Tripathi, who said, “If we are able to clearly state our vision and provide them the resources to succeed, people will come.” The story also interviewed Michael Cain, dean of the medical school. The new recruits quoted in the story are: Vanessa Barnabei, chair of obstetrics and gynecology; Anne B. Curtis, Charles and Mary Bauer Professor and Chair of Medicine; Anthony Martinez, clinical associate professor of medicine; Andrew Talal, professor and chief of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition; John Tomaszewski, chair of pathology and anatomical sciences; and Gil Wolfe, Irvin and Rosemary Smith Chair of Neurology. The story resulted from efforts by University Communications to publicize the human stories that convey what the medical school move and expansion really mean for the region.
