A New York Times article about the nature of the Ebola virus and how its mysteries tend to invite speculation, cites the research Derek J. Taylor, a UB evolutionary biologist. Taylor’s research showed that Ebola viruses are “profoundly ancient, splitting off from other viral lineages at least 20 million years ago.”
