Time to get hooked on phonics again

A story on ABC News Radio reports a UB study has found that phonics is more effective in teaching youngsters to read faster than the commonly taught technique of visually memorizing word patterns, and quotes Chris McNorgan, assistant professor of psychology, who said phonological information enables children to better identify individual words. The story aired on stations that include KTIC in Nebraska and KVNU in Utah.
