A story on BBC News about Quaaludes, a drug used recreationally in the 1970s that had since disappeared until this week’s revelation that comedian Bill Cosby admitted giving them to women he wanted to have sex with, interviews David Herzberg, associate professor of history. “America in the 1950s and 1960s was having a sedative boom,” he said, “so there was this wonderful market for them.”
