Carole Emberton, associate professor of history, was interviewed for articles in the Los Angeles Times and Reuters about a bill to remove the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Statehouse grounds three weeks after a gunman shot and killed nine black churchgoers in Charleston. While the future of the Confederate flag as an official emblem was in the biggest jeopardy, she said, “I don’t think we’re going to see a mass movement to remove questionably historical memorials and monuments. It’s just not practical. You can’t throw a stone in parts of the South without hitting one.” Articles appeared in news outlets around the world, including MSN, Huffington Post, Australia’s Business Insider, KBET-AM in Los Vegas, England’s Daily Mail, Yahoo News and South Africa’s IOL.
